Report: Davante Adams 'unlikely' to play against Cardinals

The Green Bay Packers likely won’t have receiver Davante Adams available when they take on the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Divisional Round.

A source told Rob Demovsky of ESPN that the Packers “fear” Adams sprained his PCL, an injury that would likely keep the second-year receiver from taking part in Saturday’s showdown.

After a disappointing season in which he fought both injuries and inconsistency, Adams showed some signs of life during the Wild Card Round—catching four passes, including a touchdown, during Green Bay’s 35-18 win over the Washington Redskins. He made a leaping catch over a defender for 20 yards on a third-down play, before getting open in the corner of the end zone for a score from Aaron Rodgers in the second quarter.

Adams suffered the injury when Packers tight end Richard Rodgers came down awkwardly on his teammate’s knee after a second-half reception.

Losing him now could damage Green Bay chances of upsetting the Cardinals.

The Packers’ offense finally found a pulse in Washington, as Rodgers snapped out of his funk and threw a pair of scores. Green Bay scored 35 of the game’s final 42 points, including Adams’ second-quarter touchdown, to run away with an 17-point win.

If Adams can’t go, expect second-year receiver Jared Abbrederis—who caught two passes and a two-point conversion against the Redskins—to take over his role in Green Bay’s preferred three-receiver sets.
