Report: Chip tried to trade Kendricks for second-round pick

Published May. 7, 2015 11:01 a.m. ET

There was a ton of speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles would make a trade leading up to or during the 2015 NFL Draft. Although some players had their names tosses around in a proposal to land Marcus Mariota, guard Evan Mathis and inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks were thought to be on the trade block for other reasons.

The team acquired inside linebacker and former Defensive Rookie of the Year Kiko Alonso and defensive captain DeMeco Ryans is set to return to his starting role in the other inside lienbacker spot. Kendricks was simply the odd man out.

The Eagles didn't find a trade partner for Kendricks, but it wasn't for a lack of trying according to CBS Sports insider Jason La Canfora. The analyst revealed that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was calling all around the NFL trying to pawn Kendricks off for a second round pick in the week leading up to the draft.

La Canfora also added that the Eagles' asking price could drop now that the draft has completed because bringing Kendricks back into the locker room might not be ideal for building team continuity going forward.

Keep an eye on Kendricks as we enter the OTAs period.
