Report: Browns wanted Manziel to break up with girlfriend
Johnny Manziel had an incident with girlfriend Colleen Crowley two weeks ago that led to a police response that got the quarterback in headlines for being in trouble. In fact, on Tuesday police confirmed they have spoken with NFL investigators about the incident.
Well, if some with the Cleveland Browns reportedly had their way, Manziel would have already split up with Crowley.
According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, some within the Browns recognized the relationship was turbulent and were hoping for a separation.
There have been concerns about the sometimes turbulent nature of that relationship within the Browns hierarchy, sources said, and some have been hoping there would be separation for quite some time. Crowley is a college student who has been living with Manziel this season.
La Canfora also reported that Manziel’s behavior became a question when he was replaced by Josh McCown as the team’s starter. Manziel reportedly felt as if he had earned the starting job with a victory in Week 2 and became not as focused and diligent after being demoted, leading to a downward spiral that included day drinking and fighting with his girlfriend (you can see the video here).
Whatever Browns officials feel about Manziel’s relationship with Crowley is not unique; Manziel’s teammate Paul Kruger told police that Crowley was the wrong girl for the quarterback.
