Report: Big Ben suffered ankle sprain

An MRI Friday revealed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a high ankle sprain, NFL.com reported, citing a league source.

Roethlisberger suffered the injury to his left leg during the Steelers' 14-3 win over the Cleveland Browns Thursday night.

The two-time Super Bowl winner said he feared the worst after being sacked by Cleveland defensive tackles Brian Schaefering and Scott Paxson in the second quarter.

"I thought my leg was broken, honestly," Roethlisberger said after the game. "It's one of the most painful things I ever felt."

Roethlisberger convinced Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin to let him take the field following halftime after X-rays revealed his bones were still intact.

The Pittsburgh signal caller's teammates rallied behind him in the second half, helping stave off a determined Cleveland defense in a tight, low-scoring division battle.

Roethlisberger is expected to wear a walking boot to protect his ankle over the weekend and will be re-evaluated next week, according to the source.
