Report: April interviews for Panthers

Published Jan. 15, 2013 12:00 a.m. ET

A person familiar with the situation says the Carolina Panthers interviewed Bobby April on Tuesday for their special teams coordinator position.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not made its list of candidates public.

April spent the past three seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles' special teams coordinator. He joined the NFL in 1991 and previously served as special teams coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams and Buffalo Bills.

The Panthers fired special teams coordinator Brian Murphy midway through the season and Richard Rodgers took over on an interim basis. The Panthers also interviewed former Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Dave Toub for the opening, but he accepted the same position with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday.
