Report: Andrus Peat 'behind the 8-ball a little bit'

BY foxsports • June 18, 2015

Due to Stanford's longer academic schedule, Andrus Peat has been playing a bit of catch-up to this point in the offseason, as Mike Triplett of ESPN reports. Not only has Peat been catching up with his playbook, but also the conditioning aspect.

"I think he's behind the 8-ball a little bit in terms of conditioning. And so it's been a little harder for him to be able to respond to all the things we're doing," said offensive line coach Bret Ingalls, who previously raved about Peat's combination of size and athleticism during last month's rookie minicamp.

It's no stress yet though, as Ingalls still had positive things to say about Peat as well.

"But he's showing the same quickness with his feet for a guy that large," Ingalls told ESPN. "I think what's gonna be fair for him is, 'Where are we at come August when we get started?' and then let him go from there, because he missed so many days."

That last part is probably the most important part. Peat will have time to get back into football shape, so fans shouldn't stress too much yet. Sean Payton and company will still have high expectations for Peat, probably right out of the gate, but he'll be a player to watch throughout the rest of the 2015 offseason.
