Redskins' Williams suspended 4 games for substance abuse

Published Nov. 1, 2016 7:38 p.m. ET

Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

It's his second four-game suspension, after testing positive multiple times for marijuana during the 2011 season.

Williams will miss Washington's games against the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. He's eligible to return to the team Dec. 5.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Redskins say they're counting on Williams helping the team when he returns from the suspension.

The four-time Pro Bowl left tackle has missed only three games dating to 2012.
