'Rebuilding since 1969' is latest insult banner to fly over Jets

Figuratively, it hasn't exactly been a banner year for the woeful New York Jets.

Literally, however, it's been a pretty amazing banner year for the New York Jets.

After a 1-8 start to the season, the frustration of Jets fans is palpable, and also eminently pilot-able, because the planes and their signs just keep taking flight.

Here's the one that was spotted Sunday above MetLife Stadium:

In case you don't have your reading glasses handy, it reads: "Jets rebuilding since 1969." (What it lacks in punctuation, it makes up for in humor.)

Perhaps it helped motivate the Jets? They managed to cool off the red-hot Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers on Sunday, winning 20-13 to improve to 2-8.

This message, of course, follows the one that was flown overhead a few days ago during the Jets' practice at their facility in Florham Park, N.J.:

That banner, which reportedly circled for about 20 minutes, was enough to get the Jets to launch their own message above the Florham Park facility one day later -- via a toy helicopter -- that read, "Go Jets," according to The Associated Press. The AP reports that a Jets video staffer was responsible for that one.

No word on who's behind the anti-Jets banners, but it seems likely that we'll only be seeing more of them.

Of course, the trolling isn't coming from the skies alone. The Jets are fighting a land war, too, with disenchanted fans wearing T-shirts like these:
