Rams head coaching rumors: Jon Gruden appears open to coaching again

In the latest Rams head coaching rumors, analyst Jon Gruden is considering the job.

Now that the Rams have to find a new head coach, the search starts now. Interim coaches can be great, but not always a long-term solution.

For the Rams, it’s best to start the overhaul now.

Like Jared Goff, the franchise waited too long to act on Jeff Fisher — but now that they have, they can’t go back.

There’s a wide array of candidates, with television analyst and former coach Jon Gruden at the top of the list.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, Jon Gruden would listen to an offer from the Rams.

Per the report:

Those close to Gruden have indicated he would listen to a Rams pitch, however, and that he might be interested in a return to coaching after seven years as color analyst for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

The Rams need someone who can turn their offense into more of a weapon. Fisher failed to utilize the players he had available to him — it cost him dearly.

Other candidates for consideration include Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. In his second season at Michigan, Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a top ten ranking and just missed out on being eligible for the college football playoff.

Formerly with the 49ers, Harbaugh knew how to get the most out of Alex Smith before the quarterback ended up with the Chiefs.

Gruden knows what it takes to win as well, especially in times where tough decisions have to be made.

Whoever the Rams go with moving forward, it’s crucial that they keep Jared Goff in mind. If they don’t, the team may end up with another coach not concerned about their top overall draft pick.
