Pierre-Paul, Jacobs out for Giants at Redskins

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and cornerback Trumaine McBride have been ruled out for Sunday night's road game against the Washington Redskins.

Coach Tom Coughlin announced after practice Friday that backup running back Brandon Jacobs and cornerback Corey Webster also will miss the game.

Receiver Hakeem Nicks, who missed last week's game with Dallas, practiced fully and is probable for the game.

''I'm always eager to get on the field,'' said Nicks, who said he wanted to play last week but the coaches felt he was not ready to go because of an abdominal injury. ''You all know, you've been covering me for five seasons now. That's just me being me. I always want to be on the field, I always want to help my team, I always want to make plays and contribute the best way possible.''

Nicks is in the final year of his contract and has failed to catch a touchdown this season. He is the second-leading receiver on the club with 42 catches for 620 yards, a 14.8-yard average.

Pierre-Paul, the NFC defensive player of the week after a clinching interception return against Green Bay earlier this month, reinjured his shoulder. He took 24 snaps against Dallas and did not practice this week. Mathias Kiwanuka will start for him.

McBride aggravated a groin injury and did not practice. Jayron Hosley, who recently returned from a five-game absence with a hamstring injury, will start.

New York expects Peyton Hillis to play for Jacobs, who ran for 75 yards last week. Hillis has been inactive the past two weeks.

Center Jim Cordle, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week with a torn patella tendon in his left knee, hopes to have surgery next week.

Cordle said Friday that the initial diagnosis showed a 25 percent tear of the tendon, but further examinations showed the tendon was about 90 percent degraded. He said the surgeons will decide what to do after the surgery starts. The third-year pro, who will be a restricted free agent after this season, said the recovery period is probably going to be long.

David Baas, the Giants' No. 1 center, recently had surgery on his left knee and Cordle replaced him. With Cordle out, Kevin Boothe is moving from left guard to center and James Brewer is replacing him.

''He's a tremendous person and he kind of goes unnoticed,'' offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said of Boothe. ''No one even pays attention to him and he just plays solid for us, whether you put him at guard or put him at center. It helps that he's an extremely bright person, so he can make the adjustments that not everybody can make as easily as he can and I think, personally, he's underestimated.''
