Philip Rivers on trade rumors: "I didn't start anything"
If Philip Rivers is to be believed, he had nothing to do with the non-stop rumor mill that could've made him a Tennessee Titan.
"I didn't start anything," Rivers said in a text to ESPN's Jim Trotter. "I'm under contract for 2015. How can I comment on my future beyond that?"
The answer, Trotter says, is that Rivers easily could've quelled that trade talk. By coming out against a deal publicly, he could've put Chargers fans at ease months ago.
Instead, the saga rolls on, despite Rivers' stance that "it's a dead story." If so, these rumors will have Frankenstein-ish qualities in less than a year, coming back to life from the dead as Rivers ponders where he'll end up next.
For the time being, though, that place is San Diego. And Rivers wants to be clear that San Diego is where he always wanted to be.
"I not once, nor did (agent) Jimmy (Sexton), ever say anything about (wanting to be) traded," he texted. "I don't know what the story is. I'm here. And glad that I am. ... I'm willing to listen to an extension. I am willing to play it out. What's so wrong about that approach?"
