Philadelphia Eagles interested in trading for Torrey Smith, per reports

Torrey Smith to the Philadelphia Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles‘ receiving corps isn’t very great. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty terrible. Last year, the Eagles led the NFL in drops. Even their best receiver, Jordan Matthews, has his fair share of issues holding onto the ball. Beyond him, things just get plain ugly.

But could help be on the way?

According to Pro Football Talk, the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers have been in discussions involving a trade for Torrey Smith.

More from Inside the Iggles

Smith, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, joined the 49ers prior to the 2015 season, where he has underwhelmed significantly. However, during his four-year tenure with the Ravens, Smith caught 213 balls for 3,591 yards and 30 touchdowns.

The only knock on the Eagles possibly trading for Smith is the contract he’d bring with him. Smith is currently in the second year of a five-year contract worth $40 million and is not quite worth the money he’s being paid. The Eagles do not have a ton of money to play with and bringing in Smith would likely put Philadelphia dangerously close to the salary cap, leaving little room to make signings during free agency.

Nothing is imminent between the 49ers and Eagles, but where there’s smoke, there’s usually a fire.
