Pats-Redskins odds: New England favored in largest spread of season

The New England Patriots will be aiming for their 23rd straight-up win in their last 24 home contests when they host the Washington Redskins on Sunday as 14-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Patriots have rolled to a 7-0 SU record, outscoring opponents by an incredible 19 points per game, and dominated in a 36-7 win over the Miami Dolphins in their last outing, easily covering the spread as 8-point favorites.

Sunday afternoon’s Redskins vs. Patriots betting matchup at Gillette Stadium also marks the second time this season that New England has been given the nod as 14-point chalk, after being favored by a pair of touchdowns in their 51-17 Week 3 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, the club came up short in their previous four outings as double-digit favorites, taking the against the spread loss while eking out SU wins by three or fewer points on three occasions.

The Redskins are coming off a bye and will be riding high following their 31-30 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two weeks ago, overcoming a 24-7 halftime deficit to steal a character win but failing to cover as three-point home chalk.

Washington now owns a 3-4 SU record, leaving them deadlocked with Philadelphia for second place in the NFC East and putting them just a half game back of the division-leading New York Giants. That keeps their hopes alive of returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

The Redskins currently hold the tiebreaker edge over the Eagles on the strength of their 23-20 Week 4 win over Philly. However, with four meetings with divisional rivals scheduled in the final six weeks of their regular season they will be hungry for a victory in their first visit to Foxboro since 2007.

Historically, Washington has held the edge in meetings with the Patriots, going 6-2 SU in eight meetings dating back to 1981, but are winless SU in their last two and have failed to cover the spread in their last three according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

While a SU win gives New England a stranglehold on top spot in the AFC East, they currently have company atop the AFC conference standings with the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos sporting identical 7-0 SU records.

Looking ahead, the Patriots remain clear 10-11 favorites to repeat as conference champions, but will need a road win in their Week 12 matchup with the Broncos to strengthen their chances of securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
