Panthers LB Davis done for season
The Carolina Panthers suffered another blow to their defense Monday after an MRI revealed outside linebacker Thomas Davis was done for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
Davis suffered the injury during the Panthers' loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday.
It is the third time in less than 23 months that Davis has torn his ACL, raising concerns about his future in the NFL, The Charlotte Observer reported.
The loss of Davis comes one week after the Panthers lost Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jon Beason for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon.
"I would like 2 take the time and thank every1 that has supported me over my career," Davis wrote on his Twitter account Monday. "Unfortunately, I have re torn my acl. Thx 4 da prayers!!"
Davis missed the entire 2010-11 season after re-tearing his ACL during organized team activities (OTAs) in June. He suffered the initial injury in a game against the New Orleans Saints during the 2009-10 season.
The 2005 first-round draft pick out of Georgia signed a five-year, $35.5 million contract -- $8 million guaranteed -- prior to the start of this season, according to The Observer.
