Panthers hold out CB Gamble against Steelers

Cornerback Chris Gamble has an ankle injury and is sidelined for the Carolina Panthers' game in Pittsburgh, giving Captain Munnerlyn his fifth consecutive start.

Steelers cornerback Troy Polamalu missed his second successive game with an Achilles' injury. He didn't take part in the team's only practice of the week and was ruled out Wednesday.

Carolina also held out wide receiver Armanti Edwards, safety Gerald Alexander, cornerback R.J. Stanford, fullback Tony Fiammetta, center Chris Moore and defensive tackle Ed Johnson for Thursday night's game.

Pittsburgh didn't activate running back Jonathan Dwyer, offensive tackles Chris Scott and Tony Hills, defensive tackle Steve McLendon, wide receiver Arnaz Battle and defensive end Aaron Smith.
