Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is No. 2 on PFF's top 101 players of 2014
Pro Football Focus has become the authority on NFL player evaluation, so their ranking of the league's top 101 players from the 2014 season is next to gridiron gospel. On Tuesday, PFF highlighted player No. 2 on the countdown: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Steve Palazzolo explained why Rodgers earned a positive grade from PFF in all but two games last season.
"When it comes to skillset, there’s not a better-rounded quarterback in the league," Palazzolo wrote. "Rodgers has the arm strength and accuracy to shred defenses at all levels of the field. When the pocket breaks down, he’s extremely athletic on the move, either as a runner or a passer, and his ability to make plays outside of the pocket often slows opposing pass rushes out of fear for his big-play ability."
Palazzolo cites Rodgers' pre-snap work as the most underrated aspect of his game and named his Week 11 performance against the Philadelphia Eagles as his finest of the year. In that game, Rodgers threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns as his Packers stomped the Eagles in Green Bay, 55-20.
By the end of the season, Rodgers had racked up 4,381 yards, completing 65.6 of his pass attempts. He threw 38 touchdowns compared to only five interceptions in 2014.
