Packers players think Philip Rivers tops Aaron Rodgers in one way
The Packers get the chance to watch the NFL's reigning MVP at practice every day.
They know a quick release when they see one -- and they think Philip Rivers' might top Aaron Rodgers'.
"People say Aaron's got a quick release," Packers guard T.J. Lang told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I don't think anybody has a quicker release than that guy. He played a hell of a game."
Rivers threw quickly out of necessity, not strategy. With mix-and-match blockers responsible for keeping Clay Matthews and Co. at bay, he had to dispose of the ball quickly.
Green Bay's defense could never set its pass rush. The ball was out of Rivers' hands too soon.
"It wasn't anything where we were getting blocked," Packers' defensive end Datone Jones said. "It's just the ball was gone in two seconds. He knew he had a brand-new offensive line and he got rid of the ball really fast."
Faster even than the quarterback who sets the standard for quick releases.
