OLB Pernell McPhee will do more than pass-rush for Chicago Bears

Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee became a hot commodity on the open market mostly for his ability to rush the passer. However, the Chicago Bears signed McPhee in free agency with intentions of him doing much more for their defense.

McPhee recently touched on how his new role with the Bears differs from the old one he held with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Nate Atkins of Chicago Football.

"It’s a big difference," McPhee told Chicago Football. "I'm usually a pass rusher, and they brought me in to do other things, make the defense real difficult so you don’t know who’s coming."

McPhee has experience playing defensive line in a 4-3 and outside linebacker in a 3-4, so he's a versatile defender. He's trimming body fat, according to Chicago Football, to redefine his body and better fit the role the Bears want him to play.

After starting only six of the 60 games he played with the Ravens, McPhee has a message for all those who doubt he's on the verge of a breakout season.

"Just cut up the film," McPhee said, per Chicago Football. "That’s all I can say. If you cut up the film, you’ll see, I’m reckless. You can’t stop me with one person."
