NFL roundup: Dez Bryant misses MRI, could face fine
Dez Bryant has a hairline fracture in his knee and may face a fine for missing his MRI, and the Texans prepare for a season without J.J. Watt.
During the Dallas Cowboys’ Sunday Night Football win against the Chicago Bears, star wide receiver Dez Bryant went down awkwardly on his knee in the first quarter. This past Tuesday, Bryant was scheduled to undergo an MRI, but he missed that and team meetings. He was finally given the MRI on Wednesday, and it showed a hairline fracture in his knee. Making matters worse, Bryant will likely be fined for missing the MRI.
The Houston Texans placed star defensive end J.J. Watt on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, and it is likely his season will come to an end. Watt re-injured his back during the Texans’ 27-0 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Watt is a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and his loss is devastating to a Texans defense that is already without linebacker Brian Cushing.

Over in Seattle, the Seahawks bolstered their running back corps on Wednesday, signing veteran back C.J. Spiller. Spiller was released by the New Orleans Saints after Week 1 of the NFL season, after failing to impress in his time in the Bayou. Spiller was once considered one of the more explosive backs in the league, and will be a nice compliment to Christine Michael in the Seahawks backfield.
Staying with the Seahawks, Russell Wilson expects to play on Sunday, when the team travels east to take on the New York Jets. Wilson has said all along that he expected to play, and head coach Pete Carroll reiterated that on Wednesday. Carroll said he would be surprised if Wilson was not on the field on Sunday.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers will do battle on Sunday Night Football this week, and there is a lot of love going around. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that Chiefs defensive back Marcus Peters is a “phenomenal talent,” and that he catches every ball thrown his way. You can be sure that Big Ben will be looking for other options than whoever is covered by Peters on Sunday night.
