NFL quarterback rankings, Week 15: Tom Brady and everyone else
In our Week 15 NFL quarterback rankings, it has become increasingly obvious that the position is Tom Brady and then everybody else.
As always, these are based off this year’s play with a dash of historic context. Here’s the link to last week’s rankings.
Blake Bortles Memorial Division
32. Blake Bortles
The interception festival never ends with Bortles, who has 15 this season. Considering he’s also the worst mechanical quarterback in football, there are major questions about his future.
Jeff Kemp Division
31. Jared Goff
Goff is a rookie, but he’s really struggling. Maybe a new head coach will make the difference in 2017.
30. Matt Barkley
Barkley looks like a bad backup quarterback with four touchdowns and four interceptions. In related news, Barkley is a bad backup quarterback.
29. Bryce Petty
Much like Goff, it’s too early to pass judgement. That said, he has looked rough in limited action.
28. Robert Griffin III
This is a sad story. Griffin looked to have such a promising career ahead of him, but since his rookie year of 2012, things have completely fallen apart.
27. Colin Kaepernick
The 49ers and Kaepernick can’t wait for this marriage to be over. He’s completing 54.8 percent of his throws for 6.60 yards per attempt. Not great.
26. Matt Moore
Moore needs to win at least a few games for the Dolphins. He’s been a solid backup throughout his career, and now has to beat Bryce Petty and Tyrod Taylor. Can he do it?

Richard Todd Division
25. Brock Osweiler
The Texans beat the Colts on Sunday, but it wasn’t because of their quarterback. Osweiler had 147 passing yards and another interceptions (his 14th) against a horrendous defense.
24. Tyrod Taylor
Taylor has really fallen off in recent weeks. He struggled in a win over Jacksonville a few games ago and looked average until garbage time against the Steelers. He’ll be a free agent soon.
Tommy Maddox Division
23. Carson Wentz
Wentz might be good in the future, but he has been dismantled since starting 3-0. The Eagles have to be concerned about his regression.
22. Sam Bradford
The Vikings have no offense, and part of the problem remains Bradford’s refusal to throw downfield. At 6.92 yards per attempt, he’s not scaring any defense.
21. Cam Newton
Yes, Newton was the 2015 MVP. This year? He’s awful. Newton’s 53.5 completion percentage ranks dead last of any qualifying quarterback. It’s been ugly, and maybe telling of what is to come.
20. Carson Palmer
There has been talk Palmer could retire after this season. Maybe he should after what has been a horrid campaign. He’s 26th in completion rate (60.9) and has 13 inteerceptions.
19. Trevor Siemian
Siemian has thrown for 300+ yards in each of his last two games. The Broncos have a decent quarterback, who’s being submarined by the lack of help around him.
Jake Plummer Division
18. Joe Flacco
The yardage has been there, but Flacco is throwing too many interceptions and missing ample open receivers. He needs to improve if Baltimore is going to reach the postseason.
17. Eli Manning
Manning makes you pull hair out. He throws three passes every game that either are or should be picked off. Then, he turns around and threads a beautiful touchdown throw. Make of that what you will.

Jim Hart Division
16. Alex Smith
Smith was awesome in the first half of Thursday night’s game in a crucial win over Oakland. His numbers are average, but there has to be something said for constantly winning with a high completion percentage (67.3) and just five interceptions.
15. Marcus Mariota
After completing 6-of-20 for 88 yards on Sunday against Denver, Mariota has to drop a few spots. The kid still has 25 touchdowns, so consider this season a whopping success.
14. Andy Dalton
Dalton is fifth in the league with 3,555 passing yards and 16 touchdowns against six interceptions. However, much of that yardage came early and the Bengals have cratered since.
Earl Morrall Division
13. Dak Prescott
Prescott was hideous against the Giants, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to fade. The rookie still has 19 touchdowns to four interceptions, and can bounce back this Sunday.
12. Philip Rivers
Rivers is a great player, but he’s having a rough end to his 2016 season. The Chargers’ quarterback threw three more picks on Sunday, raising his total to a league-high 17 this season.
11. Jameis Winston
Winston might be authoring a shocking run to the playoffs. The second-year man has 23 touchdowns and is averaging 7.28 yards per attempt with only one good receiver.

Sid Luckman Division
10. Ben Roethlisberger
Big Ben threw interceptions at will in Buffalo, but was bailed out by Le’Veon Bell. He’s been solid this season, but he must be at his best the rest of the way.
9. Kirk Cousins
Cousins already has 4,045 passing yards. His contract is going to be massive, and it will be coming from the Redskins after they slapped the franchise tag on him this year.
8. Russell Wilson
You throw five interceptions, you are moving back. Wilson has been terrific in most games, but he’s also had some ugly clunkers. History says he’ll be fine.

7. Andrew Luck
At some point, Luck has to take blame. He was horrible against Houston, throwing two interceptions in the loss. He is surrounded by mediocre talent, but Luck has to step up.
6. Drew Brees
The Saints only managed 11 points against the Buccaneers, and Brees threw a game-ending interceptions. Still, he leads the league with 4.170 passing yards.
5. Matthew Stafford
After tearing ligaments and dislocated a finger on his throwing hand, one wonders if Stafford is going to fall off. To this point, he’s an MVP candidate with the Lions at 9-4.

Joe Montana Division
4. Derek Carr
Carr has the worst game of his career on Thursday, only hitting on 17-of-41 for 117 yards in the loss at Kansas City. Yet he has 24 touchdowns to five interceptions and has Oakland at 10-3. He’s been great.
3. Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers went from a question mark in October to an exclamation point in December. The hard-charging Packers are led by their MVP, who has 3,529 passing yards and a league-best 32 touchdown passes. Rodgers – and Green Bay – might be adding to their trophy cases.
2. Matt Ryan
Ryan is having a tremendous season that is going under the radar. The Falcons’ star ranks second with 4,050 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to only seven interceptions. Most impressive is his 9.16 yards per attempt, easily tops in the NFL.
1. Tom Brady
At this point, Brady has to be considered beyond elite. He’s almost supernatural. The touch on his throws are insane. The stats are eye-popping. When Brady makes an error, it’s legitimately shocking. He’s 39 years old, and getting better.
