New York Giants: Josh Brown Debacle Keeps Looking Worse

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The NFL let the New York Giants put kicker Josh Brown on their made-up exempt list, but more evidence keeps coming to light making the team look worse

Earlier this week the NFL finally had to take action against the disgusting acts of kicker Josh Brown. After claiming to have a “zero tolerance policy” on domestic violence, the NFL ignored signs of a history of abuse from Brown, who abused his now ex-wife Molly for years. When an incident in May came to light, the NFL suspended Brown for one game. In this incident it was alleged Brown grabbed his wife by the wrist and hurt her.

The NFL has since been accused of hardly looking into the incident. Apparently this must be true because there was a ton of alleged activity in the Brown family including  an incident that took place in a hotel room the NFL provided for Brown and his family at the Pro Bowl.

The league’s security had to separate Molly from her insane husband, yet they didn’t know how bad it was? Now reports are surfacing that more people on the Giants team knew about the problem, but no one spoke up.

Per King County detective Robin Ostrum (via ProFootballTalk):

“Several of Josh’s teammates were aware of the abuse in their relationship, but it is clear none of them did anything to call it to the attention of the team management or take action to help Molly out. Molly feared that people from the NFL/Giants would pressure her into making all of this go away, so that Josh and the team would not face any negative press. Molly was very upfront that in her experience, the NFL publically [sic] says that they have a no tolerance policy on Domestic Violence, but the reality is that they do more crisis management and look to cover things up.”

So how in the world did the NFL not know?

This is the same league that prides itself on being a police above police. They spent millions to prove Tom Brady knew a football was flat. They also love to run investigations after the police conduct theirs, acting like they know more than the law itself.

Earlier this season, they decided they should investigate an allegation of domestic abuse against rookie Ezekiel Elliott despite several eye witnesses saying that, not only did he do nothing, but the woman told them to lie. It was in the police reports that Elliot was being framed, but the almighty and better than thou NFL said “we shall see about that” and launched an investigation.

Now the NFL has turned a blind eye to Josh Brown. Why?

The answer is because Roger Goodell and his henchmen are fans of Giants co-owner John Mara. Mara helped serve on a committee that investigated Ray Rice’s case of domestic violence. Mara was part of the team that said Rice can pretty much never come back. He was one of the guys front-and-center saying this kind of action is intolerable. Yet when one of his own players was guilty, he and the league became conveniently ignorant.

You can’t claim to be better at judging actions than law enforcement at one turn and pretending to be dumb at the other.

The NFL dropped the ball on this one. They act like the Giants are such a world class organization when in fact they let Lawrence Taylor run wild for years with no repercussions. They also had to change NFL rules to counter the awful behavior of their current receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. They even ignored when another co-owner Steve Tisch, made jokes about the deadly disease Ebola. The same Ebola virus that the mascot of the Jacksonville Jaguars got grief for saying was in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Terrible Towels.

To recap, the league was mad at Jaxson de Ville for saying a towel had the disease. Yet Tisch wished it upon the Dallas Cowboys and that was alright.

Currently the Giants still employ Brown. He was placed on Roger Goodell’s made-up exempt list, where they put players who they aren’t sure how to handle. However, they shouldn’t be employing him. The Dallas Cowboys were destroyed for hiring Greg Hardy. The Philadelphia Eagles were harassed for singing Michael Vick.

Why are the Giants not being decimated for turning a blind eye and continuing to employ Brown? It’s time people realize the Giants are not a world-class organization, but one that points the finger towards others like they did to Rice. But when it’s one of their own, they play ignorant.

You can’t have it both ways.
