Minnesota Vikings tied for 3rd best odds to reach Super Bowl

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The hot 3-0 start by the Minnesota Vikings to the 2016 NFL season has Las Vegas oddsmakers giving the team much better odds to reach the Super Bowl.

One of the most interesting things to look at as a football fan is gambling odds. These numbers are literally organizations putting their money where their mouths are when it comes to their beliefs in NFL franchises like the Minnesota Vikings.

Of course, it is easy to see why the Vikings weren’t one of the top teams in terms of odds to reach the Super Bowl during the first two weeks of the 2016 season. Their offense has been decimated by injuries, causing new starters to take over at quarterback, running back, left tackle, right tackle, and other spots.

The folks over at CBS Sports recently revealed that the odds the Minnesota Vikings will represent the NFC in the biggest game of the year have increased and put them among the most likely to appear. Following Minnesota’s win over the Carolina Panthers in week 3, Minnesota has seen their odds of playing in the Super Bowl rise from 16:1 to 10:1.

At 10:1 odds, that ties the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers for the third place spot. The top spot belongs to the New England Patriots at 7:2 and the Green Bay Packers in second at 7:1.

Here is what Will Brinson had to say about the Vikings in his article:

“Beating the Packers and Panthers in back-to-back weeks will get people’s attention.”

Sadly, they have not received enough attention to jump in front of Green Bay in these odds despite beating their rivals from Wisconsin in week 2 of the season. Still, it is easy to see why the national media as well as Las Vegas bookmakers believe in the Packers even when they appear to be struggling.

Would you be willing to put some money on the line at 10:1 odds when it comes to the Minnesota Vikings making their first Super Bowl appearance since January 9, 1977? And do you think the boys in purple can continue to increase their odds on the backs of their excellent defense and special teams play? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
