Miami Dolphins to Hold Moment of Silence for Jose Fernandez
In the wake of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez’s tragic death, the Miami Dolphins will hold a moment of silence on Sunday before playing the Cleveland Browns
Miami Marlins ace starting pitcher Jose Fernandez died on Sunday morning in a boating accident. Details are scarce regarding the tragic passing of the 24-year-old. However, that’s truly irrelevant in a moment like this. He was taken far too young. The reaction to his death has been widespread and indicative to just how much he meant to baseball not just as a player, but as a person.
His impact went beyond baseball. From the ineffable joy he played the game with to how he interacted with fans, he was a special human being in addition to his special talent on the hill. What’s more, though, is that Jose Fernandez was a hero in Miami.
Fernandez defected from Cuba in 2008, a harrowing journey for anyone. However, he still maintained the vibrance that made him so incredible. In a city like Miami, which has such a strong Cuban community, he was a hero. And you can’t think of a better hero given everything we know about the him.
Thus, it’s only fitting that the city of Miami remembers him and pays tribute given the immense shock, tragedy, and suddenness of his death. The Miami Dolphins plan to do just that. On Sunday in Week 3, the Dolphins plan to hold a moment of silence before kickoff:

There’s a good chance, through reading about Fernandez, that you’ve already shed a tear or two on Sunday morning. However, this should serve as a fantastic tribute to an amazing young man taken too soon.
Rest in peace.
