Martellus Bennett compared Jay Cutler to Jesus
The Bears defeated the Raiders 22-20 on Sunday to earn their first victory of the season. After the game, Martellus Bennett offered an interesting perspective on the criticism teammate Jay Cutler often receives.
Cutler returned to the Bears starting lineup after missing last week’s game due to a hamstring injury. He was initially expected to be sidelined anywhere from 2-5 weeks, but completed 28-of-43 passes for 281 yards with two touchdowns and one interception vs. Oakland.
Chicago’s quarterback is no stranger to criticism, mostly for his tendency to turn the ball over. However, very few were questioning his toughness after Sunday’s effort and Bennett went as far as to compare Cutler to Jesus when it comes to facing scrutiny.
I guess Cutler beating his original timeline for returning to action can qualify as awesome stuff. More importantly, Chicago avoided an 0-4 start. Based on the way they looked last week in Seattle, maybe this week's performance can be seen as a minor miracle.
