'Lombardi' gets Super Bowl bounce at box office
The Super Bowl may have helped Broadway's "Lombardi" at the box office, but poor reviews didn't harm "Spider-Man."
The Broadway League said Monday that about 400 more tickets were sold last week for the play about Green Play Packers coach Vince Lombardi than the week before, possibly aided by mentions during the game between the Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Lombardi" saw its weekly take increase from $274,019 to $361,387 - an increase of more than $87,000 for the week ending Sunday. Even with the boost, the play is making only about half its potential.
"Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" attracted 1,352 more ticket-buyers than the week before, despite scathing early reviews from critics unwilling to wait for its much-delayed March 15 opening. It finishes with more than $1.3 million for the week.
