Lions cut S Spievey and put TE Williams on IR

The Detroit Lions have released safety Amari Spievey and 20 other players.

Detroit also put tight end Michael Williams on injured reserve Saturday when they trimmed their roster to 53 by the NFL's deadline.

The Lions also cut offensive guard Rodney Austin, cornerback Ron Bartell, running back Shaun Chapas, punter Blake Clingan, defensive tackle Andre Fluellen wide receiver Corey Fuller, cornerback Chris Greenwood, offensive tackle Kevin Haslam, linebacker Brandon Hepburn, safety Tyrell Johnson, center Darren Keyton, running back Steven Miller, linebacker Jon Morgan, safety Martavius Neloms, defensive tackles Ogemdi Nwagbuo, Xavier Proctor, and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, offensive guard Jake Scott, linebacker Chris White and wide receiver Matt Willis.

Detroit drafted Spievey in the third round in 2010 and he started 26 games over three seasons.
