Kevin White hopes to play this year: 'I'm not closing the doors'
Rookie wide receiver Kevin White, who underwent surgery to repair a fractured shin in August, is still holding out hope that he can play this season. He spent the first 11 weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list, but the Chicago Bears opened up a 21-day window for their first-round pick to start practicing with the team this week.
Although he admits to still feeling "a little bit" of pain, according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, White says there's a chance he'll be promoted to the active roster at the end of that window:
I hope so. There’s a chance. I’m not closing the doors on anything. I’ve just got to be smart with it. If I’m feeling good and I’m ready to go, then I guess we’ll have to see.
White is a 6-foot-3, 217-pound projected game-changer. Paired with fellow Bears widout Alshon Jeffery, he could be the rare type of rookie who makes an immediate impact. The Bears' only chance to see that may come in the final weeks of the 2015 season.
Jeffery is slated to become a free agent in the spring. Will he and White ever line up on the same field? In the same uniform?
