The Baltimore Ravens were deep near their own end zone and running back Kenneth Dixon gets completely steamrolled by the New England Patriots for a safety.

Monday Night Football between the Baltimore Ravens (7-5) and the New England Patriots (10-2) was scoreless early in the first quarter. New England had to punt, but was able to bury the Ravens almost at the goal line of their own end zone.

On the Ravens’ first play of that ensuing drive, Baltimore rookie running back Kenneth Dixon got completely steamrolled by Malcolm Brown and Patrick Chung for a “Welcome to Foxborough” safety.

Dixon had no chance at all to get out of his own end zone. The Patriots’ defense read Baltimore offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s play call like a book. New England wouldn’t score on the possession after the ensuing Baltimore free kick, but a good team can’t just give the Patriots points in Foxborough.

New England entered Monday Night Football with the best record in the AFC at 10-2. The Patriots will still be the No. 1 seed in the AFC entering Week 15, regardless of how Monday Night Football shakes out.

For Baltimore, this is a must-win game for the Ravens to stay atop the AFC North. The Ravens’ arch rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, defeated the Buffalo Bills in the snow in Week 14 to improve to 8-5.

Baltimore owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Steelers, but winning the AFC North is crucial to making the AFC Playoffs. The AFC West is getting at least two teams into the AFC Playoffs, possibly three if the Denver Broncos don’t fade in the final quarter of the season.

Baltimore needs this game way more than New England does. It should be a good one the rest of the way.
