Kansas City Chiefs Better Than Oakland Raiders

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Right now, the Kansas City Chiefs are just plain better than the Oakland Raiders.

The rivalry between the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs is back! But at the same time, it’s time for Raiders and their fans to admit the Chiefs are the better team right now. They went to Oakland in Week 6 and abused the Raiders in their backyard.

Then the Raiders got better, winning six straight and had a chance to show the Chiefs how much Thursday night. Edge rusher Khalil Mack and the defense took over in the second half to keep it close. But quarterback Derek Carr still doesn’t play well against the Chiefs.

So while the Raiders closed the gap a bit, the Chiefs are still the better team right now. The defense and running game showed up, particularly in the second half. But Carr didn’t get anything done against the Chiefs defense Thursday night.

On the three turnovers the Raiders forced in Chiefs territory, the Raiders got two field goals. The third would-be field goal resulted in a turnover on downs because of a bad snap. We hyped the Raiders to be that team in the AFC but they still need to mature more.

There were too many missed opportunities with bad throws, drops and penalties. And twice in a row, the Chiefs surprised the Raiders with completions on deep balls. That’s not what they are known for but they’re game plan is different for the Raiders.

The Chiefs just have a little more experience, having won a game in the playoffs last year. This isn’t over just yet, The Raiders can still get a lot better than they are. OG Kelechi Osemele and DE Mario Edwards Jr. will be back this year and OLB Aldon Smith may be back.

But the Chiefs have proven they have the better team right now.

And Raiders fans including this writer must accept that.
