Josh Norman explains how he got the Redskins hooked on soccer
When the Washington Redskins signed Josh Norman to a massive free-agent contract this offseason, they knew they’d be getting a star cornerback – but they probably didn’t know his soccer ball was part of the deal.
Norman’s proclivity for soccer apparently has caught on at Redskins camp, with a daily gathering of Redskins kicking around Norman’s ball before each practice. According to Norman, via the Washington Post, it’s gone from a diversion to a routine.
“I was just playing around. I didn’t know it was going to take off like that, but it did. Everybody got a skill now. Everybody think they can play with the ball.”
It’s become a great way for a guy who just became one of Washington’s highest-paid players to break the ice with a new group of teammates after spending his first four seasons with the Carolina Panthers:
“Just letting them know that I’m here. But sometimes it’s just one of those days we have as humans, man, where we’re just not feeling it. So I just try to get going, and they get me going They talk to me, kick the ball back and forth and just have a good time.”
It’s not quite as fun as the Dab Norman’s old teammates bonded with in Carolina, but we could see this catching on.
