After undergoing surgical procedures on his knee and Achilles this offseason, the future is looking bright for Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell. Although he's currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Bell is expected to play in the preseason, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

"Yeah, he needs some work, but he also needs to make certain he's in the best possible physical condition he can be in, and that's up to the doctors," Caldwell said, via the Free Press. "He's working, he's moving along well, he's making great progress, but we'll see where he is."

There's still no timetable for Bell's return from the PUP list, but Caldwell's optimism is certainly an encouraging development.

Bell turns 29 on Tuesday and is coming off his most productive season as a pro. He accumulated 860 yards and seven touchdowns on 223 carries. he also had 34 catches for 322 yards and a touchdown.

In 2015, Bell will team up with second-round rookie Ameer Abdullah to provide Detroit with the majority of its ground game.
