Johnny Manziel to miss Browns season finale with concussion

BEREA, Ohio (AP) Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been officially ruled out of the season finale with a concussion.

Coach Mike Pettine said Thursday that Manziel's season is over after he was entered into the league's protocol on head injuries a day earlier. Manziel sustained his concussion in Sunday's 17-13 loss to Kansas City. Manziel took several hard hits while rushing 11 times for 108 yards.

Austin Davis will start in place of Manziel, who started six games in his second season with Cleveland. Manziel went 2-4 with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He showed progress on the field, but again had some off-field issues that concern Cleveland.

Pettine could be down to his final days as Cleveland's coach. He has not spoken to owner Jimmy Haslam about his future, saying ''I'm not wired that way.'' Pettine said he ''absolutely'' wants to return for a third season.

Pettine is 10-22 in two seasons.
