Jets work out former Giants safety Stevie Brown, six others

The New York Jets are just days away from kicking off the regular season but they aren't done adding to their roster just yet.

On Tuesday, the Jets reportedly worked out seven players according to Rich Cimini of ESPN, most notably former New York Giants safety Stevie Brown. The Jets currently have four safeties on the roster after adding undrafted rookie Ronald Martin.

Brown signed with the safety-needy Giants just over a week ago, but was cut on Monday. He had a breakout season in 2012 when he pulled down eight interceptions for the Giants but hasn't remained healthy or effective since then.

The Jets don't have a glaring need at safety given the fact that Calvin Pryor and Marcus Gilchrist are the consensus starters, but depth could be improved.

Along with Brown, the Jets also worked out tight ends Nick Kasa and Brian Leonhardt, guards Michael Liedtke and Vinston Painter, defensive end Mike Catapano, and defensive back Ryan Murphy.
