Jets News: Geno Smith to Sit In Preseason Finale
Recent New York Jets news has been about whether or not Geno Smith will play in the preseason finale. Will we see him against the Philadelphia Eagles?
Leading into their preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, recent New York Jets news has been about quarterback Geno Smith. After some poor performances in the preseason, many have wondered whether he would be cut from the roster before the start of the season.
The more immediate curiosity has been about him playing against the Eagles. In the final preseason game, generally, important players do not suit up to protect them from injuries. In what should be considered as a good sign for Smith’s chances of making the team, he will be sitting out against the Eagles.
With Smith and Fitzpatrick both out, it will be a lot of Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. The preseason finale will mean a lot for Petty, who might be fighting for a roster spot. Against the Washington Redskins, Petty played very well. However, he followed that up with a poor game against the New York Giants.
Now Todd Bowles is saying that Geno Smith won't play Thurs. It'll be Petty and Hackenberg. #nyj

If Smith is going to be making the roster, Petty needs to prove to the coaching staff that he is worth being held on to as well. For Hackenberg, this will be the second opportunity that we get to see the second-round pick.
Hackenberg looked pretty good in his debut prior to throwing an interception that ultimately cost the Jets the game. On Thursday, he will have the opportunity to get plenty of reps in. It will be interesting to monitor the Jets’ quarterback situation after their preseason finale. Depending on how things go, we could very well see them carry four quarterbacks on their roster.
