Jets' Fitzpatrick 'definitely optimistic' about playing

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick says he is ''definitely optimistic'' that he'll be able to play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams despite having a sprained left knee.

Fitzpatrick was injured last Sunday at Miami in the third quarter of New York's 27-23 loss, but returned to finish the game while wearing a brace on the knee. He says Wednesday that he would again wear a brace if he plays this weekend.

He was limited at practice Wednesday, and coach Todd Bowles says the quarterback didn't run much and the team needs to monitor him as the week goes along.

Bryce Petty, who went 2 of 2 for 19 yards in relief of Fitzpatrick, would get his first NFL start if the veteran can't play. Petty was a fourth-round draft pick last year out of Baylor.
