Jennings apologizes for Rodgers' jab

Published Aug. 2, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings apologized, through comments to the media, for his recent remarks about Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers – going so far as to call him by name this time.

According to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, Jennings addressed his previous comments and a recent – and widely reported – talk with coach Leslie Frazier concerning those comments. The story noted that Jennings addressed his former quarterback by name after avoiding doing so for much of the preseason.

Jennings downplayed the talk with Frazier, saying that it was merely a case of the coach approaching him on the field, asking him what he had said, then telling him to “Keep it about our guys.”

“I don't really recall saying anything negative about Aaron or anyone over there, but, hey, I apologize," he told the Star Tribune.

Asked if he had called Rodgers to apologize, Jennings said that he had not – counting his comment as enough to end the issue.

“For what? I'm apologizing right now,” he told the paper. “If it got to him with [the media] right now, I feel if I apologize right here, he'll hear that, too. Will you make sure he hears that?"

Jennings went on to speak highly of his former team and to praise Rodgers, dismissing the previous issue as just part of him being himself.

"I'm joking. I'm messing," he told the reporter. "I'm pulling Aaron's arm. I mean if he doesn't know that or you guys don't know that, I played with the guy for seven years. I think he knows that.”
