NEW YORK (AP) The NFL has fined Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith and Washington Redskins safety Ryan Clark $22,050 each for illegal hits during games last weekend.

Smith, a rookie, made helmet-to-helmet contact with Houston wide receiver Andre Johnson in the second quarter of the Texans' 27-13 win last Sunday. The blow knocked Johnson's helmet off and he suffered a concussion, knocking him out of the game. Smith was penalized for illegal contact on a defenseless player.

Clark was fined Friday for his hit, deemed to be in the head and neck area, on St. Louis tight end Jared Cook in the first quarter of the Rams' 24-0 loss last Sunday.

New Orleans linebacker Curtis Lofton and Carolina tight end Brandon Williams were each fined $8,268 for their roles in a fight between the teams.
