Hall of Fame coach Gibbs not returning to Redskins

Published Oct. 25, 2009 9:16 p.m. ET

Hall of Fame former Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs says he has no plans to return to the struggling team.

Gibbs laughed Sunday at Martinsville Speedway when asked about rumors and Internet reports that he could return to the team as an advisor or even general manager.

He says he disagrees with the idea that the Redskins coaching job is one of the toughest in the NFL and pointed to the Tennessee Titans as proof that success in the NFL is hard. The Titans were an NFL-best 13-3 last season, but are 0-6 this year.

The Redskins are 3-3 entering their Monday night game against Philadelphia, despite having set an NFL record by playing six teams all seeking their first victory.

The start has caused fans to call for coach Jim Zorn to be fired.
