Gun found, may link to Hernandez

Something possibly connected to Aaron Hernandez has been found, and it’s a lot more serious than another letter from the former New England Patriots tight end.

Massachusetts State Police have recovered a gun they say is linked to an unsolved double slaying in Boston, which police are investigating for a possible link to Hernandez, CBS3 in Springfield reported Monday.

The weapon was discovered in the car of Jailene Diaz-Ramos, of Bristol, Conn., after she was involved in an accident in June. It’s not clear what, if any, connection Diaz-Ramos has to Hernandez. She told police the gun was among the belongings left in her car after she gave a ride to some “football players” whose names she didn’t know, court documents say.

Ballistics tests show the gun is the same one used in July 2012 when Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado were fatally shot outside a Boston club, CBS3 said. The two were hit by fire from an SUV with Rhode Island plates, a vehicle resembling one towed from Hernandez’s uncle’s home in Bristol. The shooting reportedly followed an altercation in the club between Hernandez and his group and some other men.

Hernandez is in jail in Massachusetts after being charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, who was killed June 17. Boston’s WBZ-TV has reported that Lloyd may have been talking about Hernandez’s possible link to the Abreu-Furtado killings in the days before Lloyd was fatally shot less than a mile from Hernandez’s home.

The gun from Lloyd’s shooting has not been found by police. However, video from surveillance cameras in Hernandez’s home appears to show him carrying a gun shortly after Lloyd was killed.
