Green Bay Packers LB Jayrone Elliott wants to be a special teams Pro Bowler
Green Bay Packers linebacker Jayrone Elliot has set a goal for himself this season: to make the Pro Bowl as a special teamer. He told Ryan Wood of Press-Gazette Media about his lofty goal, singling out a certain Atlanta Falcon as the player he emulates.
"Pro Bowl for special teams," Elliott said, via Press-Gazette Media. "I don't want to set (my goal) too high, but you've got to set a goal. I see guys like (former special teams Pro Bowler) Eric Weems from Atlanta, disruptive on film. I feel like I can do the same things he does."
The Packers did not re-sign 31-year-old veteran Jarrett Bush this offseason, so a vacancy is there for a new special teams ace to step up. Recently promoted to special teams coordinator, Ron Zook will be on the lookout for one.
"That's definitely a motivation," Elliott said about the opportunity under Zook, per Press-Gazette Media. "Every guy wants to be a leader. Every guy wants to be that guy. If I can take special teams as my chance to lead, I'll take it and run with it. Staying extra, meeting with Coach Zook, getting the playbook down and helping rookies get it down so we can get to training camp and not lose a step."
After playing 13 games and recording less than 20 tackles as an undrafted rookie, a Pro Bowl selection would be a meteoric leap for Elliot to make in his second NFL season.
