Goodell, NFLPA to meet with Congress

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and representatives of the NFL Players Associations are slated to meet Friday with a congressional subcommittee to discuss HGH testing, FOXSports.com has learned.

Ira Fishman, the managing director of the NFLPA, and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth will represent the players union in the meeting with members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The NFLPA has blocked efforts to begin testing for HGH this season, although the players and the league agreed to the blood screening in their new collective bargaining agreement.

"We look forward to cooperating with the committee and working with the NFLPA to start HGH testing in the NFL as soon as possible," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an email.

NFLPA spokesman George Atallah said the union is “looking forward to the meeting.”

The NFLPA has questioned the test’s efficacy.

US Anti-Doping Authority CEO Travis Tygart and the organization’s chief science officer, Larry Bowers, are also expected to attend.

Rep. Elijah Cuummings, R-Md., the ranking member of the reform committee, pushed for the meeting after the HGH test was not started by Week 1 as planned. He will attend the meeting — which is not open to the public — along with committee chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif.
