Glazer: Shockey says he's 'fine' after suffering 'minor' seizure
Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey was rushed to the hospital Thursday after experiencing a "minor" seizure during a weight training session at the team's third Organized Team Activity, a team source confirmed to FOXSports.com.
Shockey also sent a text message to FOXSports.com Thursday saying that he's "fine."
He later posted a message on his Twitter page that said: "I am ok, thanks to everyone who has shown their concern don't worry about me I will be fine.. WHO DAT!!"
With the assistance of paramedics, Shockey walked under his own power to a waiting ambulance before being taken to a local hospital for testing.
According to the source, the seizure lasted up to a minute, but the tight end seemed fine afterward — walking out with team personnel under his own power.
The team source says Shockey had completed his workout earlier in the day and had shown no signs that anything physically was wrong after a very good week of workouts. The source also says that Shockey has never shown any other signs of epilepsy previously.
Saints coach Sean Payton spoke with Shockey after the incident and expects him to make a full recovery.
"I talked to Jeremy from the hospital and the good news is he's feeling better and everything looks real good,'' Payton told NewOrleans.com. "He'll likely finish up his tests and spend the night in the hospital. They don't know if it was dehydration or what. That's what they're going through right now. They just want to make sure it's nothing more significant than that.''
Saints safety Darren Sharper, who was with Shockey in the New Orleans' weight room when it happened, says that Shockey is "doing fine."
Sharper was seen at Ochsner Hospital where Shockey is being treated. Sharper says the seizure was "scary."
Sharper says that Shockey told him that he "just felt light headed" and was able to walk on his own to an ambulance.
The 6-foot-5, 253-pound Shockey has played eight seasons in the NFL and spent two seasons with the Saints. He has missed seven games over the past two seasons due to injuries.
The next workout Shockey would participate in would be at a mandatory mini-camp June 4-6.
