Giants TE Ballard hurts right knee

Published Dec. 18, 2011 8:10 p.m. ET

New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard left Sunday's game with the Washington Redskins with a right knee injury.

Ballard was hurt on the first play of New York's final drive of the opening half, a 15-yard gain. He limped to the sideline, and at halftime the team said Ballard will not return.

Ballard has 38 catches and four touchdowns this season, his second as a pro and first as a starter.

After the last play of the half, a Washington kickoff return, Giants receiver Devin Thomas hurt his neck. Thomas was lifted on a stretcher and carted off, but the team announced that he was up and walking around in the locker room. His injury was being evaluated.
