Former Texans safety Manning announces retirement
Safety Danieal Manning, who spent the last four seasons as a member of the Houston Texans, announced his retirement Tuesday after a nine-year career.
Manning, who started 40 of the 51 games he played with the Texans, made the announcement on the team's local radio show.
"I decided I'm going to hang the cleats up," Manning said, according to Houston's official website. "I'm officially retiring."
Manning, a second-round pick by the Bears in 2006, spent five seasons in Chicago before signing a four-year, $20 million deal with Houston. The 32-year-old was cut last offseason in a salary cap move, but returned to the Texans in August after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals. He appeared in all 16 games last season, making 32 tackles.
The former Abilene Christian University standout said he plans to return to school to finish his degree.
