Former Falcons coach Mike Smith named Buccaneers defensive coordinator

BY foxsports • January 15, 2016

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers not only chose a new head coach in former offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, but they've also officially hired a new defensive coordinator, as well.

Via Rand Getlin of NFL.com:

As Getlin points out, Smith was the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, but was also the defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars before that. Also, to make things even more interesting with this hire, it was just a few seasons ago that the roles were nearly switched (with Koetter on offense) for these two coaches.

Via Ben Volin of the Boston Globe:

Well, it's obvious that Koetter and Smith got along, or else this hire probably wouldn't have happened. It'll be interesting to see how things look on both sides of the ball for Tampa Bay in 2016.
