Father of Chiefs long snapper killed in Oklahoma City airport shooting

UPDATE: Oklahoma City police announced that the suspect in the Will Rogers World Airport fatal shooting, a white male, was found dead in a pickup truck in the airport parking garage with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The gunman lay in wait outside the airport before executing a premeditated attack that occurred while hundreds of people waited for flights nearby, police said. The shooter apparently knew the victim's schedule and routine.

The father of Kansas City Chiefs long snapper James Winchester was killed in a shooting at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport, the player's agent confirmed Tuesday.

Michael Winchester was a punter at Oklahoma, where his son played for two seasons. He was an employee for Southwest Airlines and was working at the time of the shooting, police announced.

Police revealed the victim's identity but have not released any other details on the shooting. A manhunt is underway and the airport has been closed while they investigate.

Hundreds of people were stranded inside the terminal for more than three hours before officers began letting them leave slowly. About 300 people were held on aircraft away from the terminal after their planes landed ahead of a ground stop.
