Fantasy Football Week 10: Starts, Sits, and Sleepers

As NFL Playoff positioning begins to come to light, your fantasy football playoffs are looming, and DFS stakes aren’t getting smaller.
Four teams are on a bye in Week 10 leaving teams relying on Andrew Luck and Derek Carr for fantasy football production looking elsewhere for quarterback production.
LeSean McCoy is also off this week, and the Lions defense won’t be on the field this week for DFS players to poach points off.
Last week’s fantasy scoring leader was Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans who snagged 11 catches totaling 150-yards with two touchdowns in a losing effort to the Atlanta Falcons during Week 9’s opening match-up.
The performance put him 1.5 points over Atlanta’s Julio Jones for the top spot among fantasy football receivers as Evans continues to be one of the few bright spots in what has been a rough 2016 season in Tampa.
Aaron Rodgers was our top Week 9 starter as he scored 26.2 points against the Indianapolis Colts defense and came in third among his fellow quarterbacks.
Mark Ingram was the biggest Sit-Buster who proved once and for all the San Francisco 49ers can make any running game look amazing as the Saints running back put 31.1 points on them with 158-yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Week 10 is upon us, and your weekend fantasy advice is here!

START – Eli Manning, New York Giants
New York Giants vs Cincinnati Bengals – Monday, November 14th @ 8:30 PM EST
Kirk Cousins put up 458-yards and two touchdown passes against the Cincinnati Bengals defense in Week 8, and even though the game ended in a tie, his fantasy football owners certainly had a chance to win.
The Bengals secondary is vulnerable to the pass and it hasn’t ever been more evident than when they faced the Redskins.
Eli Manning is at home against this defense, on Monday Night, and has one of the best wide receivers in the game.
Look for a big performance from this quarterback, and have patience as it’ll be worth the wait.
START – Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons @ Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
For you Sunday game players, and for those who simply can’t wait for Monday Night to get their QB points, there’s Matt Ryan.
The Falcons had a hint of a meltdown earlier this year, but it hasn’t materialized and they still own first place in the NFC South on the back of a highly effective offensive attack.
Ryan faces the Eagles defense this week which had held opposing quarterbacks in check for the early part of the year, but have sprung a lead as of late.
Three of the last four quarterbacks to face this defense have thrown for at least 250-yards while combining for eight touchdown passes.
More from The Pewter Plank
The Philadelphia Eagles defense is beginning to look more like what we thought they were, and Ryan should benefit greatly from it.
SIT – Brock Osweiler, Houston Texans
Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Listen, we all have that owner in our fantasy football leagues who see a struggling team who is much worse than they were expected to be and thinks – “I’m going to start the guys playing against them!”
Yes, the Jaguars are 2-6 and last place in the AFC South. The same Jacksonville squad which was much hyped to be a competitor for the division crown this season.
However, if you’re thinking this team is easy pickings for fantasy points, you need to think again.
The Jags have held three quarterbacks to zero touchdowns this year, and only one has eclipsed 300-yards.
In fact, Jacksonville has allowed the 5th fewest passing yards so far in 2016 despite facing more than 35 passing attempts per game on average.
We all know Osweiler hasn’t lived up to his contract just yet, and if you’re licking your fantasy chops at a genius Week 10 stream as he faces a two-win team, you may go hungry.
SIT – Tom Brady, New England Patriots
New England Patriots vs Seattle Seahawks – Sunday, November 13th @ 8:30 PM EST
Two quarterbacks have thrown for over 300-yards against the Seattle Seahawks, and one of them was Matt Ryan who currently sits atop the fantasy football quarterback scoring chart.
Tom Brady’s return has been triumphant to say the least as he’s fired off three games of at least 300-yards and three touchdowns.
However, in this game the Patriots are going to need to lean on their running game more than any other time this season, and this means a significant dip in Brady’s production.
If Belichick’s golden boy is your starting QB on your season roster then you’ll probably survive. Brady is still Brady. If you’re looking at DFS plays though, look somewhere else this week.
SLEEPER – Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
Nov 6, 2016; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) runs the ball against the New York Giants during the first half at MetLife Stadium. Mandatory Credit: William Hauser-USA TODAY Sports
Philadelphia Eagles vs Atlanta Falcons – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Carson Wentz looked like he was on his way as an NFL quarterback and fantasy football contributor when the season started.
Since starting 3-0 heading into the Eagles’ bye-week, Wentz has dropped four of his last five contests throwing just four touchdowns compared to five interceptions.
The rookie did throw for more than 350-yards against the New York Giants a week ago however, and going up against the Falcons at home could be just what this young passer needed as he tries to get his numbers back on track.
Just a week ago, in a win, the Atlanta defense allowed Jameis Winston to throw for 261-yards and three touchdowns while his backup also came in and completed 10 passes on 11 tries for 75-yards and a score.
Bottom line is the Falcons secondary is susceptible to quarterback play, and Wentz could produce a high payout for those who gamble on him this weekend.
SLEEPER – Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos @ New Orleans Saints – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Trevor Siemian experienced his first NFL game completing fewer than 50% of his passes last week against the Raiders.
This week he faces the New Orleans Saints who haven’t held a quarterback under 50% all season long.
In fact, only two touchdowns haven’t found the endzone against this secondary and none have failed to reach at least 200-yards passing.
With weapons like Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, every pass is a touchdown waiting to happen for the Broncos offense.
Yes, they’ve leaned a bit more on the run game lately, but with turmoil at the position this team could easily get drawn into a shoot-out with Drew Brees and his high paced offense facing a Denver defense missing Derek Wolfe and Aqib Talib this Sunday.
Oct 30, 2016; Houston, TX, USA; Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller (26) rushes during the fourth quarter against the Detroit Lions at NRG Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
START – Lamar Miller, Houston Texans
Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Where the Jaguars defense is tough against the pass, they’re a bit more forgiving against the run.
In five of their seven games this season Jacksonville has allowed a touchdown to their opponents running game.
Lamar Miller has been a bit of a fantasy football bust after receiving a lot of hype entering his first season as a Texan.
Since the year began he’s had just two games over 100-yards and has two touchdowns on the year.
These numbers have him ranked as the 14th running back in fantasy scoring, making him an RB2 option drafted by most as a clear RB1.
While he hasn’t had the breakout season most expected, he hasn’t been horrible either. With only one fumble on the year he’s as sure handed as they come, and the only game he was held under 55-yards came in an eight carry performance against the Minnesota Vikings.
Miller has a chance here to help his team to a big win, but more importantly here, he can help you to a big win as well.
START – David Johnson, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals vs San Francisco 49ers – Sunday, November 13th @ 4:25 PM EST
David Johnson is technically the second leading fantasy football running back to date. I say technically because of the Top-3 he’s the only one who has hit his bye-week.
Both Melvin Gordon and DeMarco Murray have played in nine games this year, and the scoring gap between Johnson and the next highest scoring back to play in eight games so far is more than 30-points.
Coming out of the Arizona bye Johnson draws the San Francisco 49ers who have held only Todd Gurley to less than 100-yards this year.
Running backs facing the worst run defense in the NFL this season have scored at least one rushing touchdown in the last six games against them, the most coming from LeSean McCoy who scored three times.
Johnson should be able to tee-off against this deplorable defense, and fantasy players everywhere need to find room for him on their roster.
SIT – Spencer Ware, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs @ Carolina Panthers – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
The Carolina Panthers defense hasn’t been what it once was, but it has been solid against the run all year.
Perhaps it’s because of their opponents’ focus on trying to exploit their suddenly vulnerable secondary, but no matter, Carolina is surrendering just 3.3 yards per carry on average, has forced six fumbles and has only given up two runs for over 20-yards.
Spencer Ware seems to be clear of the NFL’s concussion protocol, but draws a very tough match-up in his first game back.
He’s only run for over 100-yards once, and don’t expect his second one to come here.
Matching up against Luke Kuechly doesn’t inspire much confidence in Ware’s ability to do damage in the passing game either, making this week a bad week to spend your DFS dollars on the Chiefs running back.
SIT – Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Chicago Bears – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM
Doug Martin seems to be on the verge of coming back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Bucs fans should rejoice when they see him return.
This team has been decimated by injuries in the backfield and have had to lean on undrafted rookie Peyton Barber among others to get any kind of running game going as they’ve limped into mid-season.
This week however, Martin shouldn’t be looked at to carry your fantasy football team to victory as hamstring injuries are never easy to come back from, and this one has kept the Bucs main back out of the lineup for six games thus far.
There’s no guarantee he’s going to get back on the field this week, but if he does he’ll be limited at best.
If you have him, stash him, but keep him on your bench this weekend.
SLEEPER – DeMarco Murray, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans vs Green Bay Packers – Sunday, November 12th @ 1:00 PM EST
DeMarco Murray is the third leading rusher in fantasy football scoring and the NFL’s second-leading in rushing yards this season.
The Green Bay Packers have given up the fewest rushing yards in 2016, but they’re also facing the fifth fewest carries against their defense per game.
While the defense may not be giving up a whole lot of room on the ground, they’re vulnerable against dual threat running backs who can get it done in the passing game as well as on the ground.
Murray has four 100+ rushing performance under his belt this season, and he also has five or more catches in five games.
With over 1,000 yards from scrimmage already this season, Murray’s career revitalization has certainly found traction, and he’ll be the focal point for the Titans as they host the Packers in Week 10.
SLEEPER – Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints vs Denver Broncos – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Running backs have found differing levels of success against the Broncos run defense all season long, and it’s obvious the departure of Malik Jackson has hurt more than expected.
With Derek Wolfe ruled out battling an elbow injury, the Denver front line is all the more weakened as they stack up against hard running Mark Ingram coming off of a 158-yard performance in San Francisco last week.
The Saints will certainly pass the ball, as they always do, but expect Ingram to get a chance for back-to-back 100+ yard games for the first time since 2014.
He should add a touchdown or two to the stat sheet as well.
Nov 3, 2016; Tampa, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (13) against the Atlanta Falcons during the first quarter at Raymond James Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
START – Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Chicago Bears – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
With the Buccaneers offense desperately trying to piece together a running game, and the defense unable to stop just about anything at this point, Mike Evans has been and will continue to get plenty of action.
As the only receiver with over 100-targets to this point, Evans is averaging 12+ each game and hasn’t had fewer than 10 since Week 1.
Evans hasn’t had fewer than four catches in any game this season, and has had at least one touchdown score in six of his team’s eight games.
The Bucs have one target for Jameis Winston to consistently look at, and Evans is it.
After entering the NFL’s concussion protocol following the Falcons game there was some nervousness about his status for Week 10, but he has since been cleared thanks to the long week following a Thursday Night game.
START – Jordan Matthews, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles vs Atlanta Falcons – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
As Carson Wentz hopes to revive his season a bit, Jordan Matthews already has to an extent.
After starting the year with back-to-back 70+ yard performances, the Eagles primary receiver had two of his next four games total less than 20-yards a piece.
In the last two weeks however, Matthews has put together respectable performances coming in as a WR2 in Week 9 after a Top-5 finish in Week 8.
Facing a Falcons secondary missing Desmond Trufant to a shoulder injury should open things up for the Eagles passing attack and Matthews specifically.
With more than 10 targets in each of the last two weeks, it appears Wentz and his best receiver have reconnected at the midway point through the year.
Good news for Eagles fans, and good news for fantasy players as well.
SIT – Brandin Cooks, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints vs Denver Broncos – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Brandin Cooks has only cracked WR2 or better scoring three times this season.
The Saints’ third-year receiver is still a threat for a homerun touchdown every play, but those homeruns haven’t come near as often following his 142-yard two touchdown opening week performance.
Since then he’s had three touchdown catches with no multi-score games, and has only broken 100-yards once.
Contrastingly, three times he’s been held under 50-yards on the day and hasn’t broken a pass play for 20-yards or more in six of New Orleans’ eight games.
Going against a Broncos defense which hasn’t allowed a 100-yard receiver yet, his prospects this week don’t look good.
Granted, Denver is missing Aqib Talib, but he isn’t the only guy who can cover in the Broncos secondary, and they’ll be focusing a lot of attention on keeping Cooks from breaking the big one.
In leagues, start him if you don’t have other options, but in DFS you need to find a different guy as long as Cooks remains boom-or-bust.
SIT – Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
Dec 20, 2015; Jacksonville, FL, USA; Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson (15) warmups prior to the game against the Atlanta Falcons at EverBank Field. Mandatory Credit: Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Houston Texans – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Allen Robinson found the endzone and found a way to crack WR1 numbers in fantasy football scoring for the second time in 2016 last week.
While he still hasn’t reached 100-yards this year, Robinson’s struggles coincide directly with his quarterback’s and of course, the entire Jaguars offense.
The Houston Texans are allowing just 16.7 points to receivers on average per game, and have only given up four touchdown catches to the position this year.
With Allen Hurns injured last week Robinson was able to put together his best performance of the season in a losing effort, but while he stepped up it also gives Houston’s defense less to worry about this week.
Focusing more coverage on Robinson will hurt his stat line against a defense which has already proven effective.
SLEEPER – Tyrell Williams, San Diego Chargers
San Diego Chargers vs Miami Dolphins – Sunday, November 13th @ 4:05 PM EST
Tyrell Williams is battling a knee injury, and it’s the same one he’s been fighting for some time.
He hasn’t been overly limited though, and has performances of 65-yards with a score, and 140-yards each coming in the last three weeks.
The Dolphins represent a prime opportunity for Williams to add another good game to his resume as they consistently allow opposing receivers to find success having allowed five players to go 75-yards or more against them.
Only the Browns struggled to find the endzone against Miami this season as well, as every other team to face them has found a receiver for a score.
With Travis Benjamin expected to miss this game, Williams’ targets should only go up, but keep an eye on the late injury reports to see if he is expected to be a full go as usual.
SLEEPER – Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Alshon Jeffery hasn’t had a 100-yard game this season, but he was able to connect with Jay Cutler against the Minnesota Vikings secondary for 63-yards and his first touchdown of the year.
As he and his quarterback look to build on this success, they face a Buccaneers defense which has allowed more than 2,300 yards receiving this year and the fourth most touchdown catches.
Jeffery has a significant height advantage over every defender in the Bucs’ secondary, and should find a way to take advantage of it going against a secondary allowing a league high 28.1 points per game to receivers.

START – Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants – Monday, November 14th @ 8:30 PM EST
Tyler Eifert is back from his injury suffered in the Pro Bowl. In his first game back he posted one catch on just two targets for nine yards.
In his first full game he was targeted 12 times however, and hauled in nine of them for 102-yards and a score.
Going against the New York Giants this weekend he should show the NFL just why he was on track to becoming the best tight end in the league before his offseason misfortune.
To the Giants’ credit they’ve bottled tight ends up pretty well this season thus far, but against good receiving ones like Jason Witten, Jordan Reed, Kyle Rudolph and Lance Kendricks they’ve been gashed for a few plays.
Eifert should turn in another good game as he returns to prominence.
SIT – Vance McDonald, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals – Sunday, November 13th @ 4:25 PM EST
Vance McDonald’s 2016 has been a mixed bag of up-and-down performances to this point.
He’s got two games of 75-yards or more, but he’s also got four games of 25-yards or less.
His 84-yards and a touchdown against the Saints will certainly gain him some fantasy attention, but going against the Cardinals it’s best to look elsewhere.
Arizona is allowing just 2.5 points per week on average, making them the best defense against the position in all of fantasy football.
Only two tight ends have surpassed 50-yards against this defense, and McDonald doesn’t figure to be the third.
SLEEPER – Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles vs Atlanta Falcons – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
Zach Ertz turned in 97-yards on eight catches, and with Brent Celek battling an injury to his ribs, the fourth-year tight end figures to get plenty of work against the Atlanta Falcons.
Ertz hasn’t been having a banner season to this point, but it seems he and his quarterback are finally on the same track after starting his year with just six catches coming into Week 5.
He may not be the top option this week, but for fantasy owners in need of a streaming option, Ertz has high upside for a bye week replacement.
For DFS players, he provides a cheaper option who may just cash in for you against a defense allowing the fifth most points to fantasy football tight ends this season.
Oct 17, 2016; Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu (32) returns an interception against the New York Jets at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
START – Arizona Cardinals D/ST
Arizona Cardinals vs San Francisco 49ers – Sunday, November 13th @ 4:25 PM EST
Despite Colin Kaepernick’s 398-yard explosion against the Saints in Wek 9, the San Francisco 49ers continue to be a team in disarray and shouldn’t present too many problems for the Cardinals’ defense.
The 49ers offense is allowing opposing defense and special teams groups to score the eighth most points in fantasy football on average bringing in eight points per game on average.
With Carlos Hyde still on the mend and no real consistent passing game to speak of, expect Arizona to make good on their high DFS price tag.
Oct 30, 2016; Denver, CO, USA; Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib (21) looks on from the sideline in the first quarter against the San Diego Chargers at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Mandatory Credit: Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports
SIT – Denver Broncos D/ST
Denver Broncos @ New Orleans Saints – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
The Denver Broncos defense hasn’t had the same dip in performance being experienced in Carolina, but nevertheless, they certainly aren’t the same group which secured Peyton Manning’s second Super Bowl title.
Facing the Saints is a tall task for any defense, but playing them on the road without arguably your best defender and key pass rusher is nearly impossible.
Aqib Talib and Derek Wolfe will both miss Sunday’s match-up against Drew Brees and his offense. This fact will severely hinder Denver’s defense in their efforts to stop the veteran quarterback looking to bring his team back into playoff relevance.
The Saints are on a two-game winning streak because they can out-shoot anyone. Denver missing two key defenders means they’ll have to hope the Saints are off in order to keep it within reach.
SLEEPER – Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Houston Texans – Sunday, November 13th @ 1:00 PM EST
With Brock Osweiler’s struggles and the Jaguars relatively good defense against opposing passing attacks, the potential for turnovers looms large as the Texans visit Duval County this week.
Osweiler has thrown interceptions in every game but one, and has yet to go a complete game without being sacked at least once.
For the Jags’ defense, the only thing missing right now is interceptions. This makes their Week 10 contest against the turnover prone quarterback a perfect opportunity to put their mark on a game.
In fact, let’s go ahead and say Jalen Ramsey will get his first career interception in this one.
