Falcons GM Dimitroff stresses close relationship with Quinn

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) After hanging on to his job, Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff says he wants to keep building his relationship with coach Dan Quinn and get the team back to the playoffs.

Dimitroff spoke Thursday at the team's training complex with Quinn at his side, the GM's first public comments since owner Arthur Blank brought him back for 2016.

Dimitroff says he never thought much about his future but kept playing up his symmetry with Quinn, doing little to dispel the notion that the first-year coach was largely responsible for saving his job. Poor draft picks and questionable free-agent signings have contributed to three straight seasons without making the playoffs.

Despite Quinn's growing influence, Dimitroff made it clear that he's still ultimately responsible for who the Falcons draft and sign.
