Eric Weddle still noticeably absent as Chargers OTAs end
Eric Weddle isn't compelled to report to Chargers Park just yet. So, as many expected, the star safety stayed away from Monday's final OTA session.
That stance could change soon. Weddle is required to attend next week's three-day mandatory minicamp, where he'll rejoin his teammates from the first time since his lengthy contract dispute began -- or else.
"We understand it, but we can't wait for him (to show up)," defensive lineman Corey Liuget told Bakersfield Now. "Hopefully (a contract) gets done in the next couple of days or in a week or so."
But the Chargers have prioritized Liuget's long-term security over Weddle's. The fifth-year lineman is expected to ink a new deal in the upcoming week.
Weddle will wait for his new contract, either from the Chargers or someone else. But he'll only make less if he chooses to take a more combative route and skip next week's practices.
