Dolphins' Jones now out after once deciding against surgery

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:24 p.m. ET

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones considered shoulder surgery last offseason but decided against it, and now he's out for the season after aggravating his injury.

''My shoulder has been messed up for about two years,'' Jones said Tuesday. ''It was pretty painful, but I played through it.''

Jones had been playing with a torn labrum and thought he could continue despite the injury. But when he tore the rotator cuff in Week 6, surgery became mandatory.

He acknowledged he could have fixed the problem last offseason without missing any games.

''I should have,'' he said, ''but I can't look back now.''

Jones said he expects to be 100 percent in four months, meaning he should be available for offseason practices in early 2017.
